Club Song
When we stride onto the oval to play
Our fearless aim is to win
We shatter opponents each Saturday
Whether bowling fast or spin
The Greenock team's a run machine
When batting or bowling it's got to mean
The Schlungers we are ...
The Schlungers we are ...
THE GREATEST
The Fabled Origins of the Schlunger (German for Snake)
Legend has it that one sweltering Saturday afternoon many seasons ago, one beige-coloured reptile's appearance in the change room (through a crack in the floor), spurred a certain opening batsman to feats never before seen on the hallowed turf - feats that could only be explained by the appearance of the Schlunger. Those present, including the Directors, three supporters, one on-looker, one hundred and twenty-seven galahs and seven magpies, all agreed that this was indeed an omen, and from that day on the Greenock Cricket Club should be known as the Schlungers....
So from a humble crack our identity and ideology were born. This, no doubt, provided the inspiration for the club prayer.
Club Prayer
"Blessed are we who are cracked, for we shall let in the light"
